What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me?

What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean?

Mr. May said to define Discovery. I think discovery means to look and learn. My picture is about me discovering about nature and life. I am also learning about plants and science. This is what I think discovery means.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?

The game I played is Jump Cat. I played Jump Cat because it looked interesting and good, and it is awesome. I had to see how to make a professional, effective arcade game because I am making one. One plays Jump Cat by using a little gray cat that just jumps over the obstacles, and they get harder every time you jump. One uses the left click on the mouse to go high. You hold down the space bar to go higher or use the arrow keys to get a really big high score. When you beat the game you get a giant high score. The creator of the game is Scott Griffiths. The controls have 4 different control schemes to choose from. You can use your keyboard or mouse. If you want to play this game on your Wii choose the mouse option or use the Wii-Remote. [P] pauses the game. I would rate it 3.7 out of 4 star rating.

I would need these materials to build Jump Cat: wood, card board, plastic, glue, and paper. I think that this game would cost about $100 - $200 to build but to buy the whole game it would cost about $250.

Design Brief
What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
We decided to make foosball because we wanted to. The name of the arcade game is Colin and Savon’s Foosball. One may play the game by scoring goals with the colored players which are on sticks. The rules will be on a paper on the arcade game before you play. The level of difficulty is 3.5 out of 4. You win by getting five goals by turning the grip that moves the players to hit the ball. If you win the game you get tickets depending on how many points you beat your opponent by.

On our blue print we have the defenders, offence and goalies. The shape of it is a rectangle and we have a miniature soccer field, and on the side it has stars and our names. On the front it has the goal and a design and the ball holder. The two legs are the ticket holder and the ball holder. And that is what our game has.

We will need cardboard, golf balls, metal poles, tape, tops, and army men as players to make our arcade game. It will probably take 2 months to build it. We see problems with the tickets because we are trying to figure out how to crawl into the bottom and feed the tickets out.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?

Praise: Love the game. Army men are an excellent idea.

Question: Who had the idea to use the Army men?

Polish: Need a new ball. Pokers stick for when the ball is stuck on the side.

Student Comment: I am glad that you liked our game, Savon and Colin’s Foosball. Moving on to your next comment, Colin and I both had the idea to use the Army men but I brought the Army men from the store. The Army men were a big help for our game. They made our game a hit, but the people always played rough with the Army men and made them break. Thank you for the idea of getting the poker stick. The poker stick helped a lot. Instead of a poker stick we used a ruler. We could not get the bigger ball but the bouncy ball worked fine. I hope you had a good time.

Praise: The game was fun and interactive. Very close to the real thing. I like the Army men and the creations. I liked the use of engineering to keep the ball moving 

Polish: Perhaps build out pockets to catch the ball, have taller Army men.

Student Comment: Thank you, I am happy that you liked the Army men Colin and I both thought that the Army men were a good idea. I am happy that you like the Army men as the players, but I do not think that we need taller Army men. I like the idea of bigger men for a bigger group of people. I like the Idea of having a ball holder; we did not get one but I love the idea.

Praise: Very colorful + creative game! Great game!

Question: Does the ball ever get stuck?

Student Comment: Thank you, I am glad you love the game, Colin and Savon’s Foosball and that you think it is colorful. Yes, the ball gets stuck sometimes but it does not get stuck often. It does not get stuck often because Mrs. Koska gave us an idea of using a poker stick to help stop it from getting stuck. It gets stuck about two times in one whole foosball game. When the ball gets stuck we have a poker stick. The poker stick is used if the ball goes into the corner or anything else that happens with the ball getting stuck. We used a ruler as our poker stick.

Make It Better

How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better?

Reflection on Project

What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?

Colin and I could add bigger boxes to make the game higher, and for the kindergarten, I could take them off because they would not be taped together.

Specifically, how would we do this?

We would get a bigger box and stick it on the bottom but we would not tape the bottom to the other box people some people were very tall.

Reflection on Process

What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?

I learned that you could use one piece of tape all around the box and that would be all you would have to do and then you can move on to another box and do the same process .

What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?

I know that boxes are very hard to cut and to use.

What can you do now that you couldn’t before doing this project?

Now I know how to cut out little pieces of cardboard and I also know how to create an arcade game and build and create stuff out of cardboard.

What did you like about the project that helped your learning?

I liked that I got taught by Mr. May how to build a game out of cardboard.

A Final Reflection:

I had a great time working with Colin in building our arcade game, Colin and Savon’s Foosball. I liked that Mr. May knew what he was doing when he helped Colin and me build our arcade game. I think that to make our game better we could have added extra boxes on the bottom of the game and could have made a step stool for the kindergartners. For this to work we would use 4 boxes to make posts so they could make the game taller. Then, we would put boxes on the ground for kindergartners to stand on. The process that Collin and I went through to make this game was not hard. We started with thinking, then to drawing, and lastly to building.
